Comments on: Do Psychedelics Carry A Heart Risk? https://thethirdwave.co/psychedelics-heart-risk/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=psychedelics-heart-risk Learn About Psychedelics Sat, 04 Nov 2023 05:41:57 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.4.2 By: Brad P https://thethirdwave.co/psychedelics-heart-risk/#comment-292058 Sat, 04 Nov 2023 05:41:57 +0000 https://thethirdwave.co/?p=5140#comment-292058 It took 30mg of Fenfluramine every day for 90 days to cause heart damage in some susceptible people.
According to this page LSD has an equal 5HT2B binding affinity to Fenfluramine.
Fenfluramine has a Molecular Weight of 231.262
LSD has a Molecular Weight of 323.440
i.e. LSD has ~1.4 (323.440/231.262) times the M.W. of Fenfluramine

Therefore taking a ‘standard’ full dose of LSD of 100ug is exposing your body (& 5HT2B receptors) to roughly 1/420 the concentration of drug compared to a 30mg Fenfluramine dose
i.e. 1/(300×1.4)

Therefore IMO even a full dose of LSD taken every day (which no-one does because full tolerance to its effects occurs after ~3 days) would be highly unlikely to have any VHD effect.

Therefore IMO a ‘standard’ microdose of LSD of 10ug would expose your body (& 5HT2B receptors) to roughly 1/4200 the concentration of drug compared to a 30mg Fenfluramine dose; which is likely to have no risk of VHD what so ever – even for susceptible people (which apparently is not everyone).

MDMA and Psilocybin/Psilocin however are taken in much larger concentrations (though their relative 5HT2B binding affinities must be taken into account), so definitely present a greater VHD risk; BUT of course its only MDMA that some people (rarely) take in daily doses, because of course Psilocybin/Psilocin (as with LSD) produces a full tolerence after ~3 days of use (and it’s essentially non-addictive).

No prior heart or brain problems. Haven’t had any since and have low but good heart rate and blood pressure. Don’t do MDMA if you know you have any existing health problems. It’s not worth the risk.

Hi Suleym,
I’m sorry you had that experience. I can’t offer medical advice, but I’m glad to hear that your doctor said everything is normal. Hope you feel better soon.

My experience after chewing truffles was really awful and had very bad trip. After 5 hours I returned to normal . This will be my one and only time using this. However even 2 days passed since I returned to normal;I still feel a mild pain in my heart and beating. I went to home doctor and she said my heart is beating normal and my blood values are normal. The mild pain and beat in my heart will end soon? or truffles damaged my heart? I am sceptical. I would be happy having your say in my situation and of course if you have any recommendation.

My question as a quadruple coronary bypass patient is,
I am not going to do MDMA anymore, but I am looking for a non-heart-disturbing recreational substance.
Once in a blue moon so not at all regular.
What do you recommend? edible wise??

If weed raises my heart rate high from just a little amount, I am hoping that psilocybin wouldn’t do the same, because that it all I can focus on if it happens

Hi Rachel, thanks for your comment. Small doses of psychedelics (aka. microdosing) has significant benefits to overall mental health and well-being. You can find more information about that here: https://thethirdwave.co/microdosing/

I know it’s two yrs later but I also have svt, I’ve eaten a 1/4 of edible shrooms 3 times and had no problems. I wondered if you ever tried it and did or tried LSD in small dose cause I have some and wonder if I should take it

As a Facilitator of Psilocybin, I can provide some personal insight, though I don’t have any scientific data per se. I have worked with literally hundreds of people in Plant Medicine Ceremony – some with Ayahuasca, but mostly with Psilocybin. I co-founded the first above-ground Psilocybin Church in the United States (www.sacredheartmedicine.us). There is a fraction of participants I have worked with who have known heart conditions and did not have any issues during or following their Ceremony experience. In fact, a handful of people actually told me of improvements to their medical conditions following Psilocybin Ceremony.

From the Shamanic viewpoint, most medical and mental health conditions are created as a result from traumatic experiences/unprocessed emotions being stored in the body. Example: cancer is often a result of unprocessed resentment. When you work with a Plant Medicine, these stored emotions are brought to the surface, processed and released from the body. This is why you see people being cured of cancer, autoimmune diseases and other things after working with Psilocybin. I am going to go ahead and guess that heart conditions may result in the same positive benefits.

It may not be in the medical books (yet!), but it’s coming.
